  • Which classes do you teach online?

    ENG 200: Understanding Literature

  • What do you want students in your courses to learn? What is the learning outcome or objective?

In my literature course, I want students to be exposed to a variety of literary voices from different historical and cultural moments in time and to learn the skills to engage with the ideas and emotions raised in those texts.

  • Why did you start teaching?

When I worked in a bookstore, I found I loved nothing more than talking with others about the books we were reading. I decided that returning to school was a way to make a living by having those same kinds of engaging conversations.

  • What advice would you give to those considering this online program?

Know that education is never wasted. You never know where your journey is taking you, so with each step, embrace it with all you have ... and embrace the material in your individual classes. A student once said in class, “The more I put into the course, the more I got out of it.” I think this is so true.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

    Shakespeare's “King Lear” (a play).

  • Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students may not know about you.

Students may not know that I love reading murder mysteries; cozy ones are my favorites.
