Career Highlights:
- Co-authored "Crime and Criminal Justice in American Society," an introductory criminal justice textbook
- Worked as a mitigation investigator on death penalty cases
- Escorted students to Cuba, Costa Rica, England, Ireland, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, and Austria for study abroad

What do you want students in your courses to learn? What is the learning outcome or objective?
I want students to challenge the assumptions they hold about our justice system.
Why did you start teaching?
I enjoyed the challenge of getting students to think critically about our system of justice, crime, and law.
What advice would you give to those considering this online program?
You will need to be driven and focused to succeed. Online does not mean that courses are easy. These are challenging courses that require you to be self-guided at times. Being an online student requires that you be disciplined.
What qualities make someone particularly successful in the field in which you teach?
The best CJ professionals have empathy for others.
What is the one book you think everyone should read?
"To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee.
Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students may not know about you.
I grow a large vegetable garden every summer, including several varieties of hot peppers from which I make my own hot sauces.
Also, I am a certified scuba diver.
