What do you want students in your courses to learn? What is the learning outcome or objective?
I want students to develop critical-thinking skills, role competence, cultural competence, and professionalism.
What advice would you give to those considering an online nursing program?
This is a difficult, and at times, demanding program for RNs who have previous ICU or ICU/ED experience. This program is online, which means there are no live lectures. Students must be self-motivated and able to take responsibility for their own learning needs. Faculty are always available online for assistance. Students in the clinical area have clinical preceptors and clinical faculty available for assistance.
What qualities make someone particularly successful in this program?
RNs with ICU and/or ED experience of at least one year.
What do you think is the biggest challenge that nurses face today?
The biggest challenge is the first year or two transitioning from an RN to an APRN. The second challenge is working in a group with multiple MD providers and learning each one's preferences.

My Iceberg is Melting by John Kotter.
