Why did you start teaching?
Education and nursing are my passions. I want to be able to help prepare the next generation of nurses and nursing educators so the profession is able to continue growing.
What advice would you give to those considering this online program?
Personal organization and drive are very important, but they also have to find ways to connect with the faculty, students, and preceptors/mentors to augment the textbooks and online assignments.
What qualities make someone particularly successful in the field in which you teach?
Compassion, passion for quality, passion to teach others.
What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in the profession face today?
Time constraints and competing priorities for the time and energy available.
What is the one book you think everyone should read?
Dealing with People You Can’t Stand: How to Bring Out the Best in People at Their Worst by Rick Kirschner.
Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students might not know about you:
I used to ride and train horses including barrel racing.
What do you want students in your courses to learn? What is the learning outcome or objective?
In the Capstone course, I want them to synthesize previous learning and resources into an application-level project.
