  • What do you want students in your courses to learn? What is the learning outcome or objective?

    At the end of the course, students should be able to:

    • Explain several areas of Health Informatics and its applicability to the healthcare field in order to improve the overall health of our communities
    • Explore current and possible future uses of Health Informatics and the impact on the care delivery process, environment, and team.
    • Describe the foundational knowledge needed to assist the organization in responsible use of Health Informatics and to advise organizational leadership on future direction.
  • Why did you start teaching?

    Teaching is a fulfilling career. I enjoy sharing knowledge. In the classroom, I have the ability to be creative, which makes learning fun.

  • What advice would you give to those considering this online program?

    Be comfortable with group work. Applied learning may be required—don't be afraid of learning new things.

  • What qualities make someone particularly successful in health informatics?

    Students in health informatics come from many different backgrounds. Many students are familiar with the topics discussed and do not realize how much they already know. Students should be open to new topics.

  • What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in healthcare face today?

    The biggest challenge that people may face is change. There have been many changes in healthcare within the last 10 years. We will continue to see changes as we integrate technological advancements in healthcare.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

    Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell.

  • Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students may not know.

    I enjoy the beach and try to visit a new one each year.
