Which online degree program(s) do you teach?

M.A.Ed. Teacher as Leader – C&I

  • Links to share?

My area of interest is the Underground Railroad. I have a website to help teachers. www.undergroundrailroadresources.org

  • What do you want students in your courses to learn?

I want the students who are teachers to understand the material I am teaching and then take that content into their classrooms.

  • What advice would you give to those considering the online MAEd - Teacher as a Leader in Curriculum & Instruction program?

Make a schedule and be organized about when you will turn in your assignments. Also, if you have a question, don't hesitate to ask your classmates (even if it's online) as well as your professor.

  • What qualities make someone particularly successful in education?

Care, compassion, and love of content that you are teaching will help make you a successful educator.

  • What do you think is the biggest challenge that educators face today?

Educators must be up-to-date on teaching trends. Even though I was a full-time professor, I subbed in an ESL classroom so that I could remain current in classroom strategies. No matter what age, all students need to know that their teachers care about them and want them to be successful.

  • Why did you start teaching?

Teaching is a blend of supporting and encouraging students to be the best they can be as well as loving the content you teach. I also like teaching because every day is different.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

The Power of Their Ideas: Lessons for America from a Small School in Harlem by Deborah Meier.

  • Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students might not know about you.

I have an adopted daughter from China and we plan to go back to her orphanage as a college graduation present.
