  • Why did you start teaching?

    I had a professor that truly inspired me as an educator. I knew then that I wanted to educate future nurses and nursing leaders.

  • What advice would you give to those considering this online program?

    It is difficult to work, go to school, and have a family, but with dedication, it can be accomplished. It takes commitment to be successful and organization is key. Communicate with your faculty, they want to support you and to help you be successful.

  • What qualities make someone particularly successful in the field in which you teach?

    A successful nurse truly cares about patient's physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. A nurse leader is dedicated to promoting improvements in healthcare access, delivery, and outcomes.

  • What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in the profession face today?

    Currently a nursing shortage continues, and we need nurses at all levels including bedside nurses, leadership, and advanced practice. Retaining current nurses and encouraging the advancement of nursing education are key to overcoming the nursing shortage.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

    "Creating Magic" by Lee Cockerell.

  • Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students may not know about you.

    I love the outdoors–hiking, running, and enjoying nature.

  • What do you want students in your courses to learn? What is the learning outcome or objective?

    I encourage students in my courses to grow as nursing leaders to promote the nursing profession, excellence in healthcare and positive outcomes.
