Dr. Karen Vietz
DNP Program Director
I strive to empower students to do all possible to advance the profession of nursing to enhance quality care for patients, families, and communities.
Degrees Held:
- Ph.D. – Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, 2016
- MSN for Advanced Practice Nurse, Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist - Loma Linda University, 1993
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Union College, 1988
Career Highlights:
I have been a nurse for 31 years enjoying the many facets of nursing including staff/charge nurse, advanced practice nurse, nurse manager, and professor of nursing. As a professor of nursing, I have been a chair of a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program and faculty teaching courses face to face, online, and in hybrid format as well in clinical settings. I have been blessed to offer nursing care in a variety of settings such as homes, prisons, burn units, and research-based hospitals: Johns Hopkins Hospital, Loma Linda University, and Sanford Health. My major clinical experience areas include critical care/intensive care (cardiovascular, neuro-surgical, trauma, pulmonary), emergency department, oncology, and home health. Additionally, I am grateful for past and current opportunities to provide healthcare to those in need, not only in the United States, but other countries.
