Career Highlights:

  • Works with leaders in the field of evidence-based practice (EBP)
  • Contributed to three versions of the EBP textbook: "Evidence–Based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare" by Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt
  • Provided an evidence-based practice lecture to nursing students in Mexico City, Mexico
  • Developed, implemented, and evaluated an EBP program at one of the top three pediatric institutions in the U.S.–the program was open to all allied health professionals with a focus on development of change within their area(s) of practice. The program remained in existence for 15 years.

    Value the dialogue, support and learning as a member of an academic environment.

  • What qualities make someone particularly successful in the field in which you teach?

    Understanding the differences between nursing research and the EBP paradigm. In addition, when working with children and families, a caregiver must have a caring and compassionate approach at all times.

  • What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in the profession face today?

    COVID-19.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

    Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson, M.D.

  • Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students might not know about you:

    I was told by my high school counselor that I could not be a nurse based on my ACT scores. The best profession for me would be to become a secretary.

  • What do you want students in your courses to learn? What is the learning outcome or objective?

    Learning outcome: students will discuss the importance of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) in healthcare, implement and evaluate the EBP process leading to change in organizational systems for the health and well-being of patients, visitors, staff, educators and leaders.
