  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Union College, 1988

Career Highlights:

I have been a nurse for 31 years enjoying the many facets of nursing including staff/charge nurse, advanced practice nurse, nurse manager, and professor of nursing. As a professor of nursing, I have been a chair of a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program and faculty teaching courses face to face, online, and in hybrid format as well in clinical settings. I have been blessed to offer nursing care in a variety of settings such as homes, prisons, burn units, and research-based hospitals: Johns Hopkins Hospital, Loma Linda University, and Sanford Health. My major clinical experience areas include critical care/intensive care (cardiovascular, neuro-surgical, trauma, pulmonary), emergency department, oncology, and home health. Additionally, I am grateful for past and current opportunities to provide healthcare to those in need, not only in the United States, but other countries.

  • What do you want students in your courses to learn? What is the learning outcome or objective?

    Since all of the students I teach are registered nurses, my goals for them are to increase their knowledge of nursing and increase their ability to seek solutions for quality care.

  • Why did you start teaching?

    I am passionate about teaching and desire for students to learn and grow in a meaningful, caring, and engaging environment. I want learning to be enriching and fun. I enjoy students. I love being a part of student learning. I strive to empower students to do all possible to advance the profession of nursing to enhance quality care for patients, families, and communities.

  • What's the best advice you ever received?

    Come prepared to work hard and enjoy learning at a graduate level.
