Eligibility Requirements

In order to determine your eligibility, you must be fully admitted to NKU. You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually. The priority deadline to file the FAFSA each year is Feb. 1. You will not be awarded federal, state, or institutional aid until your financial aid file is complete.

You must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program to receive federal financial aid. You must also be maintaining progress according to NKU's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAP). You must meet all federal, state, and institutional eligibility requirements.

The Office of Student Financial Assistance reserves the right, on behalf of the College, to review and cancel any award at any time because of changes in a student's financial or academic status. Changes are reflected on the revised award. This serves as notification of the change.

The Office of Student Financial Assistance participates in the following Federal Aid programs:

  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
  • Federal Work-Study (FWS)
  • Federal Direct Loan (subsidized and unsubsidized)
  • Federal Direct PLUS Loan (PLUS)
  • Federal Direct Graduate/Professional PLUS loan (GRAD PLUS)

Before eligibility is determined, you must complete the FAFSA and meet basic eligibility requirements such as:

  • Be admitted to the University with a complete financial aid file
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen with a valid Social Security number
  • Have completed a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certification
