Admission Requirements:

  • Official transcripts of all coursework from accredited institutions
  • Professional resume which includes relevant experience
  • 2.8 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale

M.S.I.S. Online Admission Requirements

  • Complete online application and pay $40 non-refundable application fee
    • If you are an NKU alum or active/veteran military member, your application fee will be waived
  • Submit official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) coursework from accredited institutions with a minimum undergraduate overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.8 or higher
    • Applicants with an overall undergraduate GPA between 2.5 and 2.8 must submit a current resume with evidence of three years of professional work experience

Find out what you will study in our online M.S.I.S. – Management program

For the online information systems management M.S. program, you must complete a total of 30 credit hours, including 21 credit hours of core courses and nine credit hours of electives. Students without a programming background may be required to take an additional programming course as advised by the program director.

This course teaches the fundamental concepts of management information systems, managerial and organizational principles, and other related concepts. This includes the use of information, the organizational structure of MIS, and managing information & computing resources.

Develops an understanding of tools, techniques, and methods for analysis, design, and implementation of information systems. Uses theory and applied projects to build effective interpersonal and communication skills that are essential to interact with clients, users, and other team members involved with the development, operation, and maintenance of information systems. Prerequisite: MIS 625 or consent of program director
Duration: 7 Weeks weeks

In-depth investigation of intelligent database management systems in support of business decision-making. This course includes an investigation of all aspects of data modeling, database design, and implementation of relational, object-oriented, and semantic databases.

This course is an overview of software development project management practices, context and processes of software development projects, project risks and failures, managing technical personnel, and issues relating to project outsourcing.

The course covers the design and development of business intelligence systems (data warehouses and data marts, for example). Dimensional models will be developed and implemented in an enterprise system. Students gain a working knowledge of business intelligence systems with hands on labs and an applied project. Prerequisite: MIS 625 or MIS 635 or consent of program director
Duration: 7 Weeks weeks
Students complete a major field test, write a reflective essay, complete an exit survey, and document a computer programming requirement. Recommended be taken in the semester of graduation or the semester before graduation. Prerequisites: MIS 625, MIS 635, MIS 650 and accrual of 15 credit hours, or consent of the graduate program director.

This course describes how to analyze business planning and decision problems with models and application software. We assess the essential structure of a problem in terms of objectives, decision variables, uncertainties, outcomes, choice criteria, and feasibility to make optimum decisions with modeling and application software.

This course provides the fundamental concepts underpinning blockchain technologies and focuses on blockchain applications for business. Students will learn about the overall blockchain landscape as well as the potential business value of blockchain applications and the challenges that must be overcome to achieve that value.

The course provides an overview of the field of Information Security and Assurance in various technical and administrative aspects including audit and controls. Students will be exposed to a spectrum of security activities, methods, methodologies, and procedures.

In this course, you will learn about Information Systems and IT strategies that corporations adopt to gain a competitive advantage. This is followed by applying your knowledge to a real scenario in the form of a case study (class project). Prerequisite: MIS 625 or consent of program director
