If you’re feeling bored or restless in your current job, or you’ve hit a plateau in your current position, it could be a sign you need a new challenge. Earning an MBA might be the perfect solution and a challenge worth taking on.
Earning an MBA while working full time can be a huge challenge, but sometimes a challenge is just what we need. Would it be easier and less work to stay in your current position? Sure. But who is to say your current position will be there forever? To remain valuable and competitive in today’s job market, employees must always be re-evaluating their education and expanding their knowledge.
Have You Become Complacent?
Once we’ve graduated, landed a job in our chosen field and settled into a routine, it’s easy to become complacent. Many workers who have been in one position for a while find themselves at a dead end with little chance for advancement. During the course of our careers, it’s essential to regularly re-evaluate where we are and where we want to be. Earning an MBA can turn your stagnant career around by opening up a flood of possibilities.
Many MBA students begin their education in hopes of gaining a promotion with their current employer; however, it’s not unusual for graduates to discover a passion in another area and switch industries altogether. Still others find the confidence to forgo the corporate life for entrepreneurial opportunities. The knowledge and skills gained during an MBA program is only the beginning of a change that can take place within ourselves.
Does Your Job Need to Change, or Do You?
If you find you’ve stayed at your job expecting, but never getting, a promotion, it might be time to make a change. According to PayScale, the longer you stay with one company in the same position, the more likely you’ll be overlooked for promotions, perpetuating the same situation.
Before you simply change organizations, you have to ask yourself, will a change of company change my circumstances? Maybe the change has to start with you. Earning an MBA can give you the tools and confidence you need to make yourself an asset to your employer and competitive on the job market.
It’s Never Too Late
Many individuals who’ve been working in their chosen career field begin to doubt their career choice, but few individuals remain in the same exact field throughout their entire careers. A recent article from The Muse asserts that it’s never too late to make a change, whatever that means. “The even better news is that you don’t have to have it all figured out when you’re 30, 40, 50.” Even if you’re 50, in as few as 12 months, you could earn an MBA degree and be in a new position or even a different industry altogether.
While working toward an MBA can be challenging, online coursework makes it easy to fit around a busy schedule. With the possibility of gaining a valuable credential in as few as 12 months, earning an MBA is a challenge worth assuming.
